$^3_\infty$[Tl2Zn(ADC)2(H2O)2]: the First Coordination Polymer with Acetylenedicarboxylate (ADC2–) as Bridging Ligand containing two Different Metal Ions

Abstract: From an aqueous solution containing ZnCO 3 , Tl(CH 3 COO), and acetylenedicarboxylic acid (H 2 ADC: HOOC-C≡C-COOH) single crystals of 3 ∞ [Tl 2 Zn(ADC) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] (1) were obtained. Compound 1 crystallizes in triclinic space group P1 with Z = 1. A slightly distorted octahedral ZnO 6 coordination and a very unsymmetric TlO 6 coordination (Tl-O < 321 pm) are found, the latter probably caused by a stereo-* Prof. Dr. U. Ruschewitz

“…In order to realize the formation of heteronuclear coordination polymers, three pathways are possible: Partial, but statistical replacement of one metal species by another: This method of “isomorphous substitution” is most likely to be successful in the case of a series of isostructural compounds Specific coordination of two distinct metal types by two different donor groups of the linker, following the HSAB concept , or exploiting the oxophilicity of lanthanide ions. , Using metal containing linkers with additional donor groups. These have one metal species already bound in the ligand and coordinate to a second type of metal ions …”

“…In a subsequent study, the same authors obtained the first ADC-based CP containing two different metal ions, namely thallium( i ) and zinc( ii ). 64 Single crystals of the CP with the formula [Tl 2 Zn(ADC) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] formed by slow evaporation of an aqueous solution containing ZnCO 3 , Tl(CH 3 COO) and H 2 ADC. In its crystal structure, the Zn 2+ cation is octahedrally coordinated by four oxygen atoms of the carboxylate groups of four different ADC ligands and two oxygen atoms from two water molecules (Fig.…”
