Purpose of review This review article aims to discuss the clinical presentation and diagnosis of rumination syndrome and supragastric belching, as well as treatment options for both diseases. Recent findings Functional gastrointestinal disorders such as rumination syndrome and supragastric belching may be effectively treated using biofeedback. Summary A comprehensive approach that includes potential pharmacologic treatments, cognitive behavioral therapy and biofeedback should also be considered for optimal management of supragastric belching and rumination.

“…Providing patients with a clear diagnosis and explanation of the physiological nature of Rumination syndrome is the first step to treatment and helps to provide reassurance and reduce resistance to the diagnosis and treatment of Rumination syndrome. The gastroenterologist will discuss any medications they would recommend for the patient to take to address any comorbid symptoms, or baclofen to potentially assist in reducing regurgitation frequency as an adjunct to behavioral treatment (Gupta et al, 2021). Finally, the psycholo-gist reviews the plan for the IOP to begin the following day.…”
