35Cl NQR in SnCl4·2Me2O and SnCl4·2Et2O

Abstract: 35Cl NQR spectra in SnCl4·2Me2O and SnCl4·2Et2O have been observed. Three crystal modifications of SnCl4·2Me2O have been found. A cis geometry is suggested for one of them, and a trans geometry for the remainder. A transformation between the cis and trans isomers in the solid state is indicated. The Zeeman effect on single crystals of cis-SnCl4·2Me2O and SnCl4·2Et2O has provided detailed information on bond angles and bond character. It is confirmed that the molecular geometry of cis-SnCl4·2Me2O belongs to the… Show more

“…While the precise crystal structures of SnCl 4 •xH 2 O (xϭ2,3,4,5,...) have yet to be determined, the molecular point group symmetries have been revealed by Raman spectroscopy, 1 and the Sn-Cl bond characteristics have been investigated by Negita and co-workers, 2 who observed 35 Cl nuclear quadrupole resonance ͑NQR͒ spectra for xϭ2, 3,4, and 5 at room temperature and at 77 K.…”

“…[3][4][5][6][7] From the zero-splitting patterns of single crystals of SnCl 4 •2Me 2 O and SnCl 4 •2Et 2 O, Mishima and Okuda were able to obtain detailed information on the configuration of the ligands and the bond angles, 3 revealing a cis-geometry for SnCl 4 •2Me 2 O, and a trans-geometry for SnCl 4 •2Et 2 O. On the other hand, no comprehensive study of the bond characteristics and lattice dynamics of tin ͑IV͒ chloride complexes has been made employing NQR techniques.…”
