Robotic right complete mesocolectomy with patient‐specific three‐dimensional modelling for planning and intra‐operative navigation – a video vignette

Abstract: We present a training case in which a three-dimensional (3D) model was used to plan and perform a robotic right mesocolectomy on a 40-year-old male patient with a T3 N2 M0 moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in the ascending colon.

“…Approaches to automatically generate colour coded models have already been described [38]. Such simpler reconstructions methods are likely sufficient for the purposes of CME preoperative planning and are far more viable within the clinical context [39].…”

“…The anatomical perception benefits must also be considered along with the wider functionality offered by 3D models. 3D reconstruction can also be brought into the operating theatre for the purposes of intraoperative navigation and may facilitate patient specific surgical simulation [39–41]. Given our findings of improved anatomical understanding using 3D models, a prospective study on 3D models in CME would help to confirm whether these improvements are translatable to operative outcomes.…”
