TaAP2-15, An AP2/ERF Transcription Factor, Is Positively Involved in Wheat Resistance to Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici

Abstract: AP2 transcription factors play a crucial role in plant development and reproductive growth, as well as response to biotic and abiotic stress. However, the role of TaAP2-15, in the interaction between wheat and the stripe fungus, Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), remains elusive. In this study, we isolated TaAP2-15 and characterized its function during the interaction. TaAP2-15 was localized in the nucleus of wheat and N. benthamiana. Silencing of TaAP2-15 by barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV)-mediated … Show more

“…The promoters of DoAP2 genes contain endosperm-specific cis -acting elements with expression in the meristem in response to growth and developmental processes, and that respond to multiple stress signals, which might regulate various biological processes. This is consistent with the basic functions of AP2 TFs [ 37 , 49 ]. Different DoAP2 TFs play a variety of roles that may be related to their specific and/or differential binding to different cis -acting elements or other proteins, suggesting their involvement in different regulatory processes [ 50 , 51 , 52 ].…”

“…In wheat, an AP2 homolog, TaAP2-15 , positively regulated wheat resistance to Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici [ 62 ]. TaAP2-15 expression spiked at the onset of infection (12 hpi) and then again at 48 hpi, corresponding to the activation of signalling at the onset of infection and the colonisation of the host plant by the fungus, respectively.…”

“…Many AP2/ERF transcription factors regulate plant growth and development and stress response by interacting with other transcription factors, such as BR regulated ( Xie et al., 2019 ), WRKY ( Tripathi et al., 2015 ), MYB ( Zeng et al., 2015 ), and zinc finger transcription factors ( Hawku et al., 2021 ). One of the WRKY transcription factor, OsWRKY21 (LOC_Os01g60640) has been reported to be involved in rice growth and development by regulating the expression of GA metabolism and cell wall biosynthesis-related genes.…”
