Society of Interventional Radiology Quality Improvement Standards for Percutaneous Transcatheter Embolization

Abstract: SIR DISCLAIMERSIR develops standards to provide educational resources to practicing clinicians to promote high-quality outcomes and patient safety in vascular and interventional radiology. The standards are not fixed rules, nor are they the sole determinant of treatment choice, and they are not intended to establish a legal standard of care. The use of the standards is voluntary, and a deviation from the recommendations should not automatically be interpreted as the delivery of care that is substandard. The st… Show more

“…Endovascular embolization is a minimally invasive procedure during which transcatheter delivery of embolic devices or agents, guided by real-time imaging, block blood flow to targeted tissues with therapeutic intent ( Hu et al, 2019 ). Medical conditions treatable by endovascular embolization are diverse and continue to expand ( Dariushnia et al, 2021 ). Broad categories include occlusion of vascular malformations or other vascular and lymphatic abnormalities ( Wu et al, 2019 ; Vollherbst et al, 2022 ), control of acute bleeding due to disease, trauma, or surgery ( Loffroy and Guiu, 2009 ; Jeske et al, 2010 ; Lopera, 2010 ), and devascularization of benign and malignant tumors ( Ginat et al, 2009 ; Lazzaro et al, 2011 ; Bester et al, 2014 ; Talenfeld et al, 2014 ).…”
