“…The second trial was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled comparison of 8-week self-administered behavioral skills-based VR (EaseVRx; AppliedVR) with sham VR in 188 adults with CLBP. The 8-week sham VR program consisted of 2D placebo content involving nonimmersive nature scenes and neutral music (no skills training or pain education) [ 4 , 6 ]. Both treatments were delivered via the same commercial VR headsets and involved brief daily treatment sessions.…”

“…This effect of VRH may involve multiple modulatory pathways, modifying the perception of pain and its expression through conscious and autonomic parameters, all leading to a better relaxation state. Acute or repeated use of VR might hence provide therapeutic benefits in patients suffering from pain, including when they are outside a hospital structure, as found in recent studies [38,39]. This will require further investigations; however, compared to other nonpharmacological interventions, VRH has the advantage of being easy to use and available at home for repeated use (after a short session of therapeutic education) without the need of any medical assistance.…”
