Five-year Survival Rate of Bladder Cancer in Iran during 2001-2007

Abstract: Background & Objective: Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and the most common cancer in women, comprising 8% of all males and 3% of female tumors. The present study aimed to estimate the five-year survival rates of bladder cancer in Iran. “…3 The 5 year survival rate for BC patients in stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, and stage 3 are around 96%, 70%, 36%, and 5%, respectively. 4,5 Early diagnosis signicantly improves BC patient survival rates and reduces the cost and complexity of cancer treatment. 6 Currently, cystoscopy-aided imaging as a primary diagnosis means that BC is invasive and expensive.…”

“…Easy accessibility, non-invasiveness, high sensitivity and specificity for high-grade urothelial cancers and excellent impact on the evaluation of the entire urinary tract have led to the use of this method. This method can detect high-grade malignant cells in occult cancers that are not detectable by cystoscopy ( 8 - 9 ). Positive cytology is significantly associated with tumor recurrence and is independent of other pathoclinical variables.…”

“…Table 4 depicts the presented statistics regarding the bladder cancer prevalence in Iran [ 28 ] . According to a study conducted in Iran from 2001 to 2007, the survival rate of the low-grade and high-grade urothelial cell carcinomas was 81% and 66%, respectively [ 29 ] . Malignant cell carcinoma as another kind of this tumor is divided into two general categories: invasive (to muscle) and noninvasive bladder carcinoma.…”
