“…Interruption of aortic arch (IAA) with ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a complex congenital heart disease (CHD), and the challenges of IAA repair, which showed an overall 5-year survival of 60-80% and a 5-year freedom from reintervention for arch obstruction of 60-80%, were well documented by the Congenital Heart Surgeons' Society and other reports [1] .Early one-stage radical resection is the preferred surgical treatment in most heart centers [2] , especially in the neonatal period, in which one-stage radical treatment can reduce the formation of collateral vessels and post-stenosis dilatation to a great extent [3] .Multiple centers reported that the operative mortality rate and postoperative AS rate of this disease were higher, but the related risk factors were reported differently by different centers. In this study, we retrospectively studied the prognosis of children with IAA and VSD who had undergone one-stage radical surgery to identify the risk factors for postoperative mortality and AS.…”

“…However, there is no official data about the surgery results. So, the multidisciplinary team assumed that the prognosis is equivalent to the same previously published by other centers (Andrianova et al, 2021b;O'Byrne et al, 2014). If the couple decided that they wished to continue the pregnancy, it would be necessary to transfer the late surveillance of the pregnancy to one of these centers to plan labor and neonatal intervention with pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgeons.…”

“…The prenatal counseling was multidisciplinary with the presence of a pediatric cardiologist and a maternofetal obstetrician. The couple was informed about the risk of mortality, and, in case of survival, about the necessity of surgery and risk of re-intervention (Andrianova et al, 2021a). The team explained that the surgery is made in several hospital centers in Portugal.…”
