“…Aqueous synthetic routes were also investigated to obtain sufficient quantities of (Ph 4 P) 2 NpCl 6 (7) and (Ph 4 P) 2 PuCl 6 (8), and are related to those used to generate Cs 2 NpCl 6 and Cs 2 PuCl 6 . 51,52 Pure stock solutions of Np 4+ were prepared by reducing a mixed stock solution containing NpO 2 2+ and NpO 2 + with either Zn/Hg amalgam or NH 2 OH•HCl (Scheme 4).…”

“…The dihedral angle between these two thf conformations is 21 (2)°: they can be considered as the two extreme conformations with maximum and minimum deviations from planarity for A and B, respectively, and may result from intraand intermolecular steric requirements, but motion of these molecules cannot be excluded. Bagnall, 1984;Bagnall, Beddoes, Mills & Li, 1982) or CH3CON(CH3) 2 (dmaa) (Bagnall, Deane, Markin, Robinson & Stewart, 1961)]. However, with smaller amides such as HCONMe 2 (dmO, several formulas have been proposed, UCl4.2-5dmf (Gans & Smith, 1964) or UC14.Ydmf (du Preez & Koorts, 1973), in the absence of monocrystalline material to determine the crystal structure.…”

“…The infrared spectra cannot make a sharp distinction between these two conditions, because any change in phthalimide nitrogen, which is directly linked to the carbonyl group, will alter the molecular environment and, accordingly, the frequency of the latter, even if it is not co-ordinated.2) However, on the basis of the Lewis concept, it may be expected that the nitrogen, which is negativelycharged, will have better possibilities of being co-ordinated than the oxygen.3) In the co-ordination through oxygen, steric hindrance will be effective, as is exemplified by the unsuccessful attempt to prepare some metal complexes with phthalimide as the ligand, complexes which would be analogous to acetamide complexes. 4) All complexes (except those prepared by using 2, 2-'dipyridyl or o-phenanthroline as the ligand) show a single sharp absorption band in the vicinity of 3300 cm-1; this is taken to be the NH-stretching frequency band. In free ammonia the band occurs at 3414 cm-1.…”
