Increasing physical activity and healthy diet in outpatients with mental disorders: a randomized-controlled evaluation of two psychological interventions

“…In the literature, another study evaluating the results of interventions with a healthy lifestyle scale in mentally ill patients could not be encountered, and the changes in nutrition and physical activities of patients were evaluated with different measurement tools. As a result of interventional studies aimed at increasing physical activity and healthy nutrition, there are results showing that healthy nutrition and physical activity habits of individuals with SMI are increased 10,34,36 . The results of this study support the research results in the literature, 44,45 and programs implemented by a nurse have a positive effect on the level of healthy nutrition and physical activity of individuals with SMI.…”

“…Studies have shown higher physical activity among outpatients [ 38 ], whereas other studies have shown higher physical activity among inpatients [ 35 ]. Two, in the studies by Petzold et al [ 39 ] and Chapman et al [ 37 ], the patients were recruited by flyers and doctors, resulting perhaps in higher rates of physical activity due to self-motivation and potentially excluding patients with no interest in physical activity. In our analysis, all patients admitted to the wards were included, showing a more realistic view by decreasing selection bias.…”

“…First studies using MoVo‐Model in populations with mental disorders show that the model might be as helpful for the design of interventions in this population as in populations without mental disorders (Petzold et al, 2017). Interventions built on this model lead to promising effects in patients with mental disorders (Gohner, Dietsche, & Fuchs, 2015; Petzold et al, 2019).…”
