The Value of 18F-FDG PET in the Diagnosis of Intertrabecular Vertebral Metastasis in a Small Cell Lung Cancer Patient with a High Serum CEA Level

Abstract: We encountered a small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patient with intertrabecular vertebral metastasis (IVM). A 59-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with weight loss. F-FDG PET-CT demonstrated the uptake of fluorodeoxyglucose in the hilum of the left lung and whole-body bones. Despite intensive support, the patient died within a month. Subsequent autopsy revealed a small lesion consisting of small round cells in the left lung. The cancer cells were found to have spread through the replacement of the bone mar… Show more

“…The median survival from presentation of SCLC was 33 weeks, but only 6 weeks from SCC. In addition, several cases in the literature of spine or spinal cord metastasis from SCLC were also reviewed, [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] and the main results are shown in Table 3. The survival time of those cases after spinal metastasis ranged from 6 days to 20 months.…”
