“…Most of our participants were Caucasian females which may limit the generalisability of the findings, although this is not uncommon when utilising a convenience sample of older adults for community-based research (Waters et al ., 2011; Ahn et al ., 2017; Trevino et al ., 2020). Moreover, all research materials and tasks were conducted in English, resulting in possible bias of the data by excluding some populations.…”

“…Additionally, different societies may also place more or less weight on the various psychological, physiological, and social aspects of ageing, based on the local socio-cultural environment (Bowling, 2007; Young et al ., 2009; Fernandez-Ballestros et al ., 2010; Reichstadt et al ., 2010; Lewis, 2014; Ahn et al ., 2017; Tkatch et al ., 2017; Black and Hyer, 2019; Chen et al ., 2019). Since there is clearly a great degree of variation between how different groups of people define healthy ageing, there remains a need to create local holistic models of healthy ageing in socio-cultural context that engage a variety of stakeholders (Soellner et al ., 2017; Howell et al ., 2020; Trevino et al ., 2020).…”

“…the bridge between research and practice, translating and applying knowledge in the field of aging" (SGS, 2019a). This parallels the efforts of other organizations that aim to connect multiple aging sectors and constituencies (e.g., government, health care, social services, and research) through advocacy and the political engagement of various stakeholders (Bui et al, 2020;Trevino et al, 2020). Although the processes and agenda discussed are specific to SGS, the approach builds on existing research and provides a template that comparable organizations might refine and employ to meet their own specific needs and shape the direction of future goals and activities.…”

“…As the group sessions yielded many different ideas about healthy aging that were condensed to a manageable number of concepts for card-sorting and analysis, some findings may be obscured in these 12 clusters. In addition, most of our participants were women, although this is not uncommon when utilizing a convenience sample of older adults for community-based research (Ahn et al, 2017; Trevino et al, 2020). Moreover, all research materials and tasks were conducted in English.…”

“…However, older adult definitions may not provide a full picture of the factors of healthy aging, either. Research shows that including community-based professionals, such as aging advocates, researchers, and service providers, in such conversations with older adults can provide a holistic model of healthy aging that demonstrates a more robust foundation for supporting aging and addressing health disparities (Soellner et al, 2017; Trevino et al, 2020). As various stakeholders may hold differing views on the subject, a participatory approach is needed to integrate the multiple perspectives of stakeholders.…”
