Beware of hemopneumothorax following core needle breast biopsy

Abstract: Minimal diagnostic procedures are conducted regularly by the radiologists for several lesions within the body. The usual methodology is biopsy with a needle, either fine needle aspiration or core biopsy. The guidance is under CT or U/S. Fine needle aspiration has usually small diameter in comparison to the core biopsy. In any case the radiologist will choose the appropriate method based on the site of the lesion and safety of the patient. Pneumothorax and hemothorax are adverse effects that can be managed eith… Show more

“…Again abscess formation has been observed in a previous case series due to high PD-L1 expression and it is common in large NSCLC lesions [161]. There are two more studies that support that local aerosol administration of immunotherapy has a favorable effect and could be used alternatively in NSCLC for selected patients [162,163].…”

“…To master the technique, a biopsy operator needs to undergo a certain learning curve [ 13 ]. Therefore, the requirement of operation level of biopsy operators is high, the operator’s experience is closely associated to the reliability of the diagnostic results [ 14 ], and improper operation can easily cause secondary damages, such as pneumothorax [ 15 ]. The operation stability of vacuum-assisted biopsy is significantly higher than that of core needle biopsy, the secondary damage is less, and the amount of acquired tissue is large.…”
