3-Dimensional Stochastic Seepage Analysis of a Yangtze River Embankment

Abstract: Three-dimensional stochastic simulation was performed to investigate the complexity of the seepage field of an embankment. Three-dimensional anisotropic heterogeneous steady state random seepage finite element model was developed. The material input data were derived from a statistical analysis of strata soil characteristics and geological columns. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to validate the hypothesis that the Gaussian probability distribution is applicable to the random permeability tensors. A stoch… Show more

“…The evolution behaviors are obviously affected by the existing projects (Harmar et al 2005;Anthony 2015;Wang 2015;Zhou et al 2017). Many projects have been built in the Jingjiang reach to handle problems like flood control and navigation, including dyke projects, bank-protection projects and waterway regulation projects.…”

“…Finally, Atangana and Vermeulen further presented a proposition for reducing uncertainties in groundwater study. In order to investigate the influences of seepage field on mechanical property, Wang [5] developed a 3-Dimensional Stochastic Seepage finite element model and proposed a more comprehensive stochastic algorithm to analyze seepage field problems. Qiu et al [6] established a statistical model and an artificial wavelet neural network model so as to improve predication accuracy.…”

“…But with the deepening of research, it is found that the porous medium is not completely rigid, the dynamic water pressure in the seepage process will produce deformations. The papers [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] show the interrelationship between the seepage field and the stress field: on the one hand, the change of seepage field makes the changes in seepage volume force and penetration pressure so that the external loads change, which causes stress redistribution; On the other hand, the change of stress field leads to the change of material porosity which caused by the change of permeability coefficient, so that the seepage field changes. This paper will focus on the coupling analysis of 3D model, and the interrelationship between the seepage field and the stress field which impacted on slope stability.…”
