Effect of allogeneic blood transfusion on levels of IL‑6 and sIL‑R2 in peripheral blood of children with acute lymphocytic leukemia

Abstract: Effect of allogeneic blood transfusion on the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) in peripheral blood of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) was investigated. A total of 91 ALL children admitted to Nanfang Hospital from June 2014 to January 2017 were selected as the study group. Patients were randomly divided into allogeneic blood transfusion group (n=38) and non-transfusion group (n=53). In addition, a total of 64 healthy children were also selected from… Show more

“…The results of this study also found an increase in IL-6 levels, which were quite high in both the HR and SR groups, proving the role of IL-6 in the pathogenesis of ALL as in the study by Luo et al,Zhao et al,and Farsani et al [13], [14], [2] Therefore, it is necessary to consider the administration of anti-IL-6 as in the study [15]. In addition, the increase in IL-6 levels in both groups was also caused by an infection in both groups, as in the research conducted by Xu XJ [16].…”

“…However, Japanese controls had a lower serum sIL2R in children and in adults with ages similar to our series 7 . In China, Gao et al 8 too reported low levels of sIL2R in children aged 2-3 yr. Two reports used the same manufacturer as the present study, Zhao et al 9 described serum sIL2R in Chinese children aged 3-12 yr similar to the present study, while Deveci et al 10 reported considerably lower sIL2R than the present study 9 10 ( Table V ). Thus, both children and adults from India seem to have higher serum sIL2R concentrations than most reports.…”

“…Allogeneic transfusion induces immune dysfunction in blood recipients by nonspecific and specific immunosuppression. The mechanism is generally believed that the inhibition of nonspecific immunity includes the inhibition of neutrophils, macrophages, natural killer cells, cytokines, and complement system [6,7]. Macrophages are one of the important components of the innate immune system.…”
