Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of seafood-borne bacterial poisoning in China and is a threat to human health worldwide. The aim of this study was to assess the antibiotic resistance profiles and distribution of heavy metal resistance of V. parahaemolyticus isolates from Penaeus vannamei from freshwater farms, seawater farms, and their corresponding markets in Zhejiang, China and to assess the relationship between multidrug resistance (MDR) and multi-heavy metal resistance (MHMR). Of the 360 P. vannamei samples that we tested, 90 (25.00%) were V. parahaemolyticus positive, but the occurrence of pathogenic isolates carrying the toxin genes tdh (4.44%) and trh (3.33%) was low. None of the tested isolates harbored both the tdh and trh genes. However, antibiotic resistance profiles varied among different sampling locations, levels of resistance to the antibiotics ampicillin (76.67%) and streptomycin (74.44%) were high overall, and MDR isolates were common (40.00% of all isolates). Heavy metal resistance patterns were similar among the different sampling locations. Overall, the majority of V. parahaemolyticus isolates displayed tolerance to Cd 2+ (60.00%), and fewer were resistant to Cu 2+ (40.00%), Zn 2+ (38.89%), Ni 2+ (24.44%), Cr 3+ (14.44%), and Co 2+ (8.89%). In addition, 34.44% (31/90) of isolates tested in this study were found to be MHMR. Using Pearson's correlation analysis, MDR and MHMR were found to be positively correlated (P = 0.004; R = 0.759). The 18 V. parahaemolyticus isolates that were both MDR and MHMR represented 18 sequence types, of which 12 were novel to the PubMLST database, and displayed a high level of genetic diversity, suggesting that dissemination may be affected by mobile genetic elements via horizontal gene transfer. This study investigated the occurrence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in seafood distribution channels, and the incidence of pathogenic and antibiotic‐resistant strains. One hundred sixty‐seven samples (126 fishery samples and 41 environmental samples) were collected from fishery auction markets, fish markets and online markets in S. Korea from March to September, 2017. The samples were enriched in polymyxin broth and plated on CHROM agar Vibrio to isolate typical colonies. These were analysed by PCR to identify V. parahaemolyticus strains containing the hns gene and to examine the presence of pathogenic genes (tdh and trh). The isolates were screened for antibiotic susceptibility (amoxycillin/clavulanic acid, ampicillin (AMP), ampicillin/sulbactam, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, gentamicin and tetracycline). Twenty‐eight samples (16·8%) were V. parahaemolyticus‐positive, and from the positive samples, three isolates (SMFM201708‐OY1, SMFM201709‐CO2‐2 and SMFM201709‐CO1‐2) were pathogenic which contained thermostable direct haemolysin or thermostable direct‐related haemolysin. These are the virulence factors associated with gastrointestinal symptoms. These three isolates were also resistant to AMP. These results indicate that there is high incidence of V. parahaemolyticus in seafood distribution channels, and three of the isolates were pathogenic, and the pathogenic strains showed AMP resistance. Therefore, food safety measures are necessary in a seafood distribution channel. Significance and Impact of the Study This study provides evidence for the incidence of pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in seafood distribution channels, especially for a fishery auction market, which showed the highest contamination and is a first place for a seafood distribution channel. Thus, V. parahaemolyticus in a fishery auction market may be cross‐contaminated during distribution, underlying the need of food safety regulation to control this pathogen in fishery auction market. Therefore, food safety regulation for fishery auction market should be established to control V. parahaemolyticus.

Introducción: La bioluminiscencia es la capacidad de ciertos organismos para transformar la energía química en energía lumínica mediante varios procesos bioquímicos. Objetivo: el aislamiento e identificación por primera vez de bacterias luminiscentes en agua marina superficial y la identificación de dinoflagelados luminiscentes marinos del Parque Nacional Isla del Coco, Costa Rica. Metodología: Se colectaron muestras de agua marina obtenida por buceo a 20 m y a nivel superficial de 13 sitios en la Isla del Coco, Costa Rica. Por otra parte, se analizaron muestras de fitoplancton colectadas desde la superficie hasta los 30 m de profundudad en los alrededores de 8 sitios de la Isla del Coco, y se determinaron varias especies luminiscentes pertenecientes a los géneros Ornithocercus y Ceratocorys. Resultados: Se logró obtener 7 aislados bacterianos luminiscentes, se identificaron y caracterizaron bioquímicamente mediante una plataforma automatizada (Vitek) con altos niveles de confianza, se ubicaron taxonómicamente dentro del género Vibrio, 2 especies: V. alginolyticus y V. parahaemolyticus, además, algunos aislados presentaron resistencia al antibiótico ampicilina y 100% capacidad hemolítica. Esta investigación muestra evidencia de la presencia de especies microscópicas marinas en Isla del Coco, Costa Rica, capaces de presentar el fenómeno de la luminiscencia, por lo que profundizar en su estudio sería relevante en cuanto a la importancia de estos microorganismos en la producción de metabolitos secundarios y como indicadores de floraciones algales nocivas, por lo que se hace necesario realizar más investigación científica para determinar su potencial biotecnológico. Conclusiones: De la misma forma, los resultados obtenidos en esta investigación sugieren expandir las localidades de colecta y aislamientos de microorganismos luminiscentes, acompañado de una caracterización bioquímica y molecular, con el fin de explorar la diversidad microbiana asociada a eventos de luminiscencia y determinar los ambientes en el que estas especies se desarrollan.
