“…Araujo-Filho et al, (2017) recently demonstrated that β-CD improves the analgesic effect of D-limonene. Thus, the weak effect found for EOLp/β-CD may be due to stereo-chemical difficulties in rotundifolone cavity or surface complexing with β-CD (Lima et al, 2016;Menezes et al, 2018).…”

“…Several studies have attempted to improve the pharmacological profile of Lippia species essential oils using a β-CD inclusion complexes (Fernandes et al, 2004;Marreto et al, 2008;Arana-Sánchez et al, 2010;Siqueira-Lima et al, 2014). Our collaborators started the evaluation of the analgesic profile of EOLp with a preliminary formalin test which indicated a possible antinociceptive effect (Menezes et al, 2018).…”

“…This behavior revealed the interaction between essential oil and β-CD and the accomplishment of encapsulation. In other works of literature, Croton rhamnifolioides essential oil [44], Lippia pedunculosa essential oil [45], and Exocarpium Citri Grandis essential oil [6] complexed with cyclodextrins, respectively, the morphology and particle sizes of inclusion complexes were transformed compared to pure β-CD. Multiple morphologies of various inclusion complexes can be observed, which may be based on the admitting ability of the β-CD cavity on various guest molecules to encapsulation.…”

“…Formed in plant secondary metabolism, they act as a form of protection against predatory attacks, to attract pollinators, and have many other activities. The great structural variety of substances present in EOs is one of the factors responsible for their various pharmacological activities, including anxiolytic [12], antidepressant [13], anticonvulsant [14,15], and antinociceptive effects [16][17][18][19][20]. Some of these activities are attributed to the intensification of GABAergic transmission due the interaction of monoterpenes with GABA A receptors [21].…”
