“…After iron ion treatment, upregulated expression of ScFerLCH was found in the midgut, hemolymph, and fat body; thus, we inferred that the coexpressed ScFerLCH would also be induced after iron treatment. Similar result were also observed in B. mori (Fei et al, 2018) and many other species (Nichol, Law, & Winzerling, 2002).…”

“…The first day of the fifth‐instar larvae was fed 10% ferric chloride (Sangon Biotech; prepared with sterile water) for 24 hr, and then the hemolymph was collected and stored at −20°C for later use. Ferritin protein was extracted from the hemolymph according to a previously published method (Fei et al, 2018; Nichol & Locke, 1989), with some modifications. Briefly, 300 μl hemolymph samples were added to 3.5 ml precooling extraction buffer (0.1% Triton X‐100, 0.5 M Tris‐HCl [pH 6.8], 0.2% ferene disodium salt, and 1 mM phenyl methane sulfonyl fluoride [PMSF]) and homogenized.…”

“…In higher eukaryotes, the HCH and LCH can be assembled to form heteropolymers. On the contrary, ferritin in the form of a heteropolymer could be depolymerized into the single subunit (Fei et al, ; Theil, ). In recent years, the functions of ferritin subunit have been widely assessed in invertebrates, especially for the functional research of HCH.…”

“…In higher vertebrates, ferritin contains two major subunits: heavy (H) and light (L) chain subunits (Harrison & Arosio, ). The insect ferritin is a tetrahedral symmetry consisting of 12H and 12L chain subunits (Fei et al, ). The H chain subunit contains a ferroxidase center that can convert ferrous to ferric iron, whereas the L chain subunit possesses a mineral core to facilitate iron nucleation (Clegg, Fitton, Harrison, & Treffry, ; Santambrogio et al, ).…”

“…It is also suggested that the expression of BmLHA may be regulated by hormones. Additionally, the BmTCP-1, B. mori heavy and light chain homolog (BmHCH, BmLCH) and B. mori Cytochrome c (BmCytc) genes found to respond to BmNPV infection were regulated by hormones [16,43,44].…”
