The preclinical evaluation of immunocontraceptive vaccines based on canine zona pellucida 3 (cZP3) in a mouse model

Abstract: BackgroundStray dogs are the reservoirs and carriers of rabies and are definitive hosts of echinococcosis. To control the overpopulation of stray dogs, zona pellucida 3 (ZP3), a primary receptor for sperm, is a potential antigen for developing contraceptive vaccines. To enhance the immune responses and contraceptive effects of canine ZP3 (cZP3), dog gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and a T cell epitope of chicken ovalbumin (OVA) were selected to construct two fusion proteins with cZP3, ovalbumin-GnRH-ZP3 (… Show more

“…However, a number of studies have examined the impact of thyroid dysfunction on ART treatment, based on clinical biomarkers in terms of measured antibodies, follicle counts, TSH levels, and hormone treatment 6,2022,2428. In women with thyroid antibodies, there was no difference in the chance of pregnancy and live birth compared to euthyroid women,2428 and identical results were presented in a meta-analysis of ART outcomes in women with different preconception TSH levels 59. The comparison of these data to ours is problematic because of different inclusions,16 but indications of an decreased chance of a live birth have been suggested 27.…”

“…ZP3 glycoprotein is recognized by the sperm and the sperm binds to the ZP3 glycoprotein which also causes the acrosome reaction of the sperm and hence is a target for contraception [23,24]. Several studies show that ZP3 has the ability to reduce the population in mice [25][26][27][28].…”
