Soluble CD146 is a predictive marker of pejorative evolution and of sunitinib efficacy in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Abstract: The objective of the study was to use CD146 mRNA to predict the evolution of patients with non-metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (M0 ccRCC) towards metastatic disease, and to use soluble CD146 (sCD146) to anticipate relapses on reference treatments by sunitinib or bevacizumab in patients with metastatic ccRCC (M1).Methods: A retrospective cohort of M0 patients was used to determine the prognostic role of intra-tumor CD146 mRNA. Prospective multi-center trials were used to define plasmatic sCD146 as a … Show more

“…Serum sCD146 is generally known to be a marker that reflects the severity of cardiovascular diseases and tumor development 30, 53, 54. An abnormal elevation in serum sCD146 has been reported to be correlated with the activity of ECs.…”

“…We demonstrated that CD146 contributed to asthma pathogenesis in a mouse model. CD146 is not only expressed on the cell membrane but could also be released into circulation (33). To demonstrate the clinical significance of the study, we measured soluble CD146 (sCD146) levels in the plasma of asthma patients.…”

“…Clinically, CD146 surface expression positively correlates with resistance to some chemotherapies. For instance, it has been shown that the 786-O renal cell carcinoma robustly increases membrane CD146 expression together with the soluble form of this protein in the culture media as the cultured cells become resistant to Sunitinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor [ 76 ]. These resistant cells, referred to as 786-R, showed higher metastatic and invasive potentials as compared to 786-O cells.…”
