Increased Levels of Cardiac Troponin I in Subjects with Extremely Low B-type Natriuretic Peptide Levels

Abstract: Because of the lack of studies focused on the biological implications of extremely low B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, we investigated whether extremely low BNP levels could be harmful to the cardiovascular system due to compromised cardio-protection. By using cardiac troponin I (cTnI) as an indicator of cardiovascular disorder, we assessed whether cTnI was inversely associated with BNP in populations with low BNP levels. A total of 2,001 apparently healthy subjects older than 38 years were included i… Show more

“…The chemiluminescent reaction with acridinium, which shows a direct relationship with the amount of BNP in the sample, was conducted. According to the manufacturer, the quality of the Architect BNP assay was continually assessed internally using control samples consisting of three levels (low, medium and high) prior to shipping in order to ensure it did not deviate from the pre-defined performance shown in the package insert 42,43 .…”

“…Therefore, the collaborative actions of BNP and noradrenaline on glucose metabolism may be hidden by or become ambiguous due to other confounding factors. The covariance structure analysis used in the present study can be performed based on the cofounding biases and is useful for inferring cause-and-effect relationships 5,2025 . We successfully proposed a path model based on a covariance structure analysis in order to clarify the causative role of either BNP or noradrenaline in the regulation of plasma glucose and HOMA-IR levels with consideration of the inherent correlation between BNP and noradrenaline themselves.…”

“…A path analysis based on a covariance structure analysis was used to elucidate the contribution of BNP and noradrenaline to the plasma glucose level and HOMA-IR, respectively, in patients with and without ACS. This analysis compares the power among multiple independent variables that confound each other, and specifically identifies probable causal effects on either the plasma glucose level or HOMA-IR 5,2025 . The causality model defines some hierarchical regression models between clinical factors and plasma glucose level or HOMA-IR.…”
