Cancer-Type OATP1B3 mRNA in Extracellular Vesicles as a Promising Candidate for a Serum-Based Colorectal Cancer Biomarker

Abstract: Cancer-type organic anion transporting polypeptide 1B3 (Ct-OATP1B3) mRNA is a variant isoform of the liver-type OATP1B3. Because Ct-OATP1B3 mRNA shows an excellent cancer-specific expression profile in colorectal cancer (CRC), and that its expression levels are associated with CRC prognosis, it holds the potential to become a useful CRC detection and diagnosis biomarker. While the potential is currently justified only at the tissue level, if existence of Ct-OATP1B3 mRNA in CRC-derived extracellular vesicles (E… Show more

“…KRTAP5-4 and MAGEA3 mRNA in the serum of patients could be used as diagnostic biomarkers to detect CRC 79. Ct-OATP1B3 mRNA was present in EVs derived from HCT116, HT-29, and SW480 cells that were declared to be serum-based CRC biomarkers,80 Huang et al, introduced UBC, H3F3A, HIST2H2AA3, AKT3, and HSPA1B as hub genes in bioinformatic analysis to serve as diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets of CRC in the future 81Table 3 shows all of these results.…”

“…The gene encoding SLCO1B3 is a member of the SLCO gene superfamily, which encodes organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP). OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 deficiency causes human Rotor syndrome by interrupting the reuptake of conjugated bilirubin reuptake into the liver [42]; however, high levels of OATP1B3 transcripts are significantly associated with colorectal cancer and prostate cancer, suggesting that OATP1B3 represents a promising biomarker for those cancers [43,44]. Therefore, we suggest that by upregulating the expression of these genes, EB1 promotes cell proliferation, tumor growth, and metastasis of HCC.…”
