“…According to the 2014 French overseas territories health barometer, 12% of Guianese declared having renounced care because of transportation issues ( 2 ). To overcome this obstacle, PA can take place outdoors, and the development of sports facilities in communal areas is important; APA programs at home also seem to be accepted by patients ( 39 ). The patient’s cultural resistance by one-third of physicians has also been reported elsewhere and raises the need for culturally appropriate interventions in multicultural French Guiana ( 40 , 41 ).…”

Although adherent participants in the present study reported to have developed such habit, previous research has also indicated that reliance on self-report might result in overestimation of its effect ( Gardner et al, 2011 ), which would require these findings to be taken with caution.…”

“…To address this obstacle, the French National Authority for Health recommends encouraging the practice of PA outdoors, possibly assisted by the enrichment of sports facilities in communal areas (first aspect of the National Sport-Health Strategy 2019-2024) 37 . Some countries like Australia are studying the possibility of development of APA programs at home which appear to be accepted by patients 51 . The ethnocultural aspect considered as a factor of resistance to practice by patients by one third of physicians is to be addressed.…”
