Influence of light intensity and water content of medium on total dendrobine of Dendrobium nobile Lindl

Abstract: In brief, the moderately strong light intensity and water content of medium from low to medium can facilitate the growth and yield of D. nobile plants, while light intensity from moderately weak to weak can enhance the dendrobine content.

“…D. nobile is a medicinal plant used widely in China. To date, there are no reports on dendrobine and related compound-producing endophytic fungi isolated from D. nobile; however, studies have focused on dendrobine produced by the herb (Li et al, 2017;Meng et al, 2017). D. nobile has attracted increasing attention in medical and chemical fields because of its active ingredients.…”

“…Owing to the increasing global demand for anti-cancer drugs, the global market for dendrobine is increasing rapidly and is expected to cross the outer limit of other drugs. Thus, the demand for dendrobine will continue to increase (Li et al, 2017;Sarsaiya et al, 2019c). However, dendrobine is an expensive drug and, therefore, not easily accessible to many people worldwide.…”

“…In summary, the two Dendrobium distribution areas are concentrated in the coastal areas of tropical and subtropical areas, and the warm and humid air from the ocean provides sufficient moisture for these areas (Sarntinoranont and Wannakrairoj, 2010;Li et al, 2017). Compared with inland areas, the coastal areas have high winter temperatures and low summer temperatures, and the daily and monthly changes in temperature differences are relatively small, providing suitable climate conditions for the growth of Dendrobium leaves and flowers (He et al, 1998).…”

“…Previous studies showed that DNL displayed anticancer, anti‐diabetic, neuroprotective, and immunomodulating activities (Cakova et al., 2017). It contained various active ingredients such as polysaccharides, phenanthrene, coumarin, flavone, alkaloids, and so forth (Ng et al., 2012), providing a good material basis for its multiple functions (Li et al., 2017). Lycium barbarum , popularly known as goji berry (GB), is a solanaceous deciduous shrubbery that grows in Asia and is used as food and a medicinal plant (Donno et al., 2015).…”
