“…However, we found that the NPQ of both ECM and NM gradually decreased under water-deficiency conditions, suggesting that thermal dissipation was affected in masson pine seedlings, i.e., masson pine seedlings dissipated excess energy through other methods. This conclusion is supported by the findings of Yi et al [63], who found that zeaxanthin (Z) (which correlates with the development of NPQ) content significantly decreased under water deficiency. Takahashi et al [64] also reported that thermal dissipation was not the main way to protect plant PSII from stress conditions.…”

“…The lower NPQ in Chinese fir and 2-year-old moso bamboo in MCM indicates that the light energy captured by leaves was fully used for photosynthesis (Liu et al, 2016), increasing photoprotection for the plants and reducing the risk of light damage (Zhang et al, 2017a;Demmig-Adams et al, 1996). However, the significantly higher NPQ of the 1-year-old moso bamboo in the MCM suggested that thermal energy dissipation was activated to dissipate the excess light energy, thereby preventing ROS generation and maintaining the balance between the absorption and consumption of light energy under a moderate water deficit (Yi et al, 2018). The above results suggested that MCM improved the light use efficiency of each component compared to that of PCF and PMB.…”

“…of LEF fl at the highest irradiance, 800 µmol m −2 s −1 . Cyclic electron transport is a significant contributor to (1) the resistance of cotton to high-light stress, facilitating movement of cotton leaves to track the sun and intercept more radiation (Yao et al 2018) and 2improving the stability of the two photosystems under mild water deficit conditions (Yi et al 2018).…”
