Fluorescence‐Guided Surgery in the Combined Treatment of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis from Colorectal Cancer: Preliminary Results and Considerations

Abstract: Our results suggest that intraoperative ICG-FI can improve outcomes in patients undergoing CS for PC from CRC. Further studies are needed to determine the role of ICG-FI in this patient population.

“…Some researchers chose 24 hours after ICG injection to perform the NIF imaging guided surgery . Whereas some studies suggested other time points . For example, in head and neck cancer, Yokoyama et al suggested that the optimal timing for tumor visibility was 30 minutes to 2 hours after ICG injection.…”

[34][35][36] For example, in head and neck cancer, Yokoyama et al 18 suggested that the optimal timing for tumor visibility was 30 minutes to 2 hours after ICG injection. However, the optimal surgical time mentioned above was determined only by surgeon's vision, and might vary with different surgeons.…”

“…No clinical outcomes of these studies are yet available, but some experimental settings have been developed in animal models. For instance, Cheng and colleagues have shown that a surgical navigation system combining optical molecular targets with an ICG-linked molecular probe is able to identify a peritoneal carcinomatosis site as small as 1.8 mm[ 64 ]. On the other hand, reports of some very limited series have shown that after i.v.…”
