Reyranella terrae sp. nov., isolated from an agricultural soil, and emended description of the genus Reyranella

Abstract: A novel strain designated 11G32T was isolated from an agricultural soil cultivated with Chinese cabbage in Korea. The cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped. The strain grew at 15-28 °C (optimum, 20 °C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum, pH 5.0-6.0) and without NaCl. Phylogenetically, the strain was found to be closely related to members of the genus Reyranella and showed 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 97.18, 96.76 and 95.99 % with Reyranella graminifolii Wo-34T, Reyranella massiliensis … Show more

“…However, this pattern did not hold in PC2 and PC3, as CcrShv-favored OTUs were more abundant under no-till instead of chisel tillage. Considering that OTUs in PC2 and PC3 were either aerobic or facultatively anaerobic [70,71,75,80,88], the CT-favored OTUs in these PCs might have been responding positively to the soil aeration from tillage. The two Ktedonobacteria OTUs that responded positively to no-till somewhat contradicted a past report, where this class increased with conventional tillage over reduced tillage [89].…”

“…The Reyranellaceae also show a considerable increase in relative abundance on media containing antibiotics. This is a poorly-cultured family with only five characterized species, which commonly require 2-7 days to grow sufficiently for analysis (Pagnier et al, 2011;Cui et al, 2017;Lee et al, 2017). Among the Actinobacteria, media containing antibiotics showed higher abundances of the Nocardiaceae and Promicromonosporaceae, both of which have been shown to benefit from targeted isolation strategies that limit the growth of other bacteria (Tiwari & Gupta, 2012).…”

“…3). The minority of OTUs that decreased with increasing pH include Acidocella (Acetobacteriaceae) and Reyranella (Reyranellaceae, formerly Rhodospirillaceae 72,73 ). An uncultured Acetobacteriaceae OTU exhibits the opposite pattern from its confamilial Acidocella.…”
