Arthroscopic Scapholunate Capsuloligamentous Repair: Suture With Dorsal Capsular Reinforcement for Scapholunate Ligament Lesion

Abstract: Scapholunate ligament (SLL) injury is the most frequent injury of the intrinsic carpal ligaments. The dorsal part of the SLL is the most important part for the stability of the scapholunate joint, and tears of this part and at least one of its secondary capsular attachments cause scapholunate dissociation. The arthroscopic technique most frequently used for acute injuries is reduction and fixation with Kirschner wires, and techniques that involve a primary repair of the injured ligament are performed by open s… Show more

“…In our series, the cases that required a second surgery due to a poor outcome with the initial suture and symptomatic instability of the carpus corresponded to patients who were treated at a later stage, 31 and 48 days after onset of the injury, probably related to loss of healing capacity after the first week, whereby we believe that treatment of acute injuries in the first 2 to 3 weeks 22 gives good results with regard to pain, grip strength, motion, and functional outcomes (►Fig. 11).…”

“…This technique can be performed on acute isolated injuries of the SLL and those associated with distal radius fractures. 22 This technique is not indicated for chronic lesions or nonreducible instability.…”

“…La reparación completa del desgarro del LEL se muestra en una muñeca izquierda. 18 Fig. 15 Esquema de procedimiento para reparación indirecta del LEL (InternalBrace): todos los procedimientos de artroscopia y fluoroscopia intraoperatoria mostraron túneles óseos y FRD tratada con placa de gancho dorsal para fijación del labio dorsal cubital y dos tornillos de compresíón sin cabeza para fracturas del estiloides radial/cubital.…”

“…2 Since their review, further techniques have been described or reported upon without the emergence of a gold standard. 11,12 Graft choice, like reconstructive technique, is dependent on surgeon preference. Yet, the properties of the graft may have a notable impact on the outcome of the reconstruction.…”
