Functional oligopeptide as a novel strategy for drug delivery

Abstract: Oligopeptides, a type of short peptide, which consist of 2-20 amino acids, exhibit a variety of biological functions in drug delivery systems, such as specific targeting, cell penetration, self-assembled capacity and responsiveness to the environment. In this review, we aim to highlight the importance of functional oligopeptides for nanomedical applications and put forward the views on the future development direction of oligopeptide medicines. Oligopeptides have gained wide attentions due to their inherent pr… Show more

“…However, some studies have reported that oligopeptides show an acceptable in vivo stability and integrity, good tissue penetration to exert their effects and a low toxicity. Additionally, they have gained wide attention for drug delivery systems and different modifications can be easily applied to improve their pharmacological profile [52]. All of these properties are relevant regarding potential therapeutic applications.…”

“… 6 However, these methods have been less impactful in the field of oligopeptide drug development due to issues including the relatively small amount of available data for oligopeptide drugs and the fact that the very short lengths of oligopeptides result in relatively few of the distinguishable features that are exploited by common machine learning approaches. 7 Thus, the development of an automatic design strategy for oligopeptide drugs would be useful.…”
