The Effects of Petroselinum Crispum on Estrogen Receptor-positive Benign and Malignant Mammary Cells (MCF12A/MCF7)

Abstract: PCE showed antiproliferative effects in MCF7 and MCF12A cells. Further investigation is required to determine whether this effect can be solely attributed to its phytoestrogens.

“…Other authors stated that it weakly expressed ER [ 109 ] or was non-responsive to estrogen [ 92 ]. Contrarily, some authors affirmed that MCF12A is ER/PR positive [ 40 , 110 ] and that it even highly expresses ERα and ERβ [ 89 ]. SKBR3 presented overexpression of HER-2 as it was supposed [ 38 ], with more than 80% of the cells in the MCAs showing a thick, circumferential uniform membrane staining [ 111 ].…”

“…The literature demonstrates that breast cancer cells can also be sensitive to parsley extract. For example, the root extract at a concentration of 500 μg/mL inhibited the DNA synthesis and metabolic activity of MCF712A and MCF7 estrogen receptor-positive benign and malignant mammary cells [ 48 ]. Tang et al have shown that dichloromethane extracts obtained from leaves and stems inhibit proliferation and migration of MCF7 cells [ 19 ].…”

“…It has been well established that MCF7 is an ERα-positive breast cancer cell line (23). In the current study, MCF7 were treated with E2 (1 mM) for 3 h, followed by analyses of cell viability and migration.…”
