Comparison of Resorbable Plating Systems

Abstract: Introduction Several bioresorbable plating systems have become standard in pediatric craniosynostosis reconstruction. A comparison of these systems is needed to aid surgeons in the preoperative planning process. We aim to evaluate one institution’s experience using Resorb X® by KLS Martin and Delta Resorbable Fixation System by Stryker (Stryker Craniomaxillofacial, Kalamazoo, MI). Methods A sample of patients with single-suture nonsyndromic craniosynostosis treated at St. Louis Children’s Hospital between 20… Show more

“…20 Supplementary Digital Content, Table 6, http:// links.lww.com/SCS/C629 details commercially available resorbable plating systems and the ratio of their composition. [21][22][23][24][25] The safety of the Inion plating system has been previously examined in rabbit models, 26 however, the rate of complications associated with these plates in humans was previously unknown. Ahmad et al 27 described a 9% rate of wound complications associated with lactosorb resorbable plates in 146 patients over a 6-year period.…”

“…Já na craniossinostose, estipulou-se o período de 18 meses como o tempo médio necessário para a completa reabsorção por placas utilizando a Resorb-X ® e Delta. Entre o 6º e o 18º mês de recuperação foi notado através do tato a formação de fluidos decorrentes da reabsorção sob o couro cabeludo dos indivíduos 19 . Além disso, relatouse palpabilidade em pacientes magros 6 .…”
