Synthesis, Characterization, and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Methyl Salicylate Derivatives Bearing Piperazine Moiety

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, a new series of 16 methyl salicylate derivatives bearing a piperazine moiety were synthesized and characterized. The in vivo anti-inflammatory activities of target compounds were investigated against xylol-induced ear edema and carrageenan-induced paw edema in mice. The results showed that all synthesized compounds exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activities. Especially, the anti-inflammatory activities of compounds M15 and M16 were higher than that of aspirin and even equal to that o… Show more

“…2-Hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester (C 8 H 8 O 3 ), commonly known as methyl salicylate, and its derivatives have been shown to display biological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and process signaling (Yoon et al, 2019;Li et al, 2016;Park et al, 2007). It can also be found in various foods (Duthie & Wood, 2011).…”

“…Compound (6) promotes angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Finally, the newly discovered compound (8) was very similar to salicylic acid in structure, except for the additional methoxy groups, [ 71 ] and had significant analgesic [ 79 ] and anti-inflammatory [ 80 ] effects. With the increasing identification of active compounds, the pharmacological effects of P. americana will be explored further.…”
