Sacrocolpopexy: Surgical Technique, Outcomes, and Complications

Abstract: Findings suggest that the ASC has an acceptably low overall complication rate comparable between open and minimally invasive approach. Mesh extrusion and anatomic failure have been shown to increase over time. Patient education and counseling are important preoperatively. It is important to discuss with the patient risks of the surgical procedure, specifically mesh-related extrusion, longer term anatomic recurrence rates, rates of functional improvement, or worsening of bladder and bowel symptoms, as well as r… Show more

“…Certain items, such as preoperative counseling and postoperative analgesia, are more specific to the procedure and could benefit from studies in patients undergoing ASC. Experts in the field of pelvic organ prolapse surgery agree that patient education improves outcomes after surgery 6 ; however, there are no studies to support this claim. Cross‐sectional studies have found that women are either not adequately informed or had a deficiency in their understanding of ASC during their preoperative discussion, 48,49 but the impact on their recovery is not known.…”

“…Abdominal sacrocolpopexy (ASC) is considered the “gold‐standard” for the treatment of apical pelvic organ prolapse 6 . The procedure traditionally is performed open, but with the adoption of laparoscopic and robotic techniques, the proportion of minimally invasive ASC has been steadily increasing 7 .…”

“…For patients with apical prolapse, sacral ligament suspension, sacrospinous ligament xation, and sacrocolpopexy (SCP) are the rst-line choices. SCP has long been regarded as the gold standard for the treatment of POP [20] . SCP is also an effective option for primary anterior compartment prolapse repair [21] .…”

“…Использование перманентных материалов в реконструкции тазового дна всегда сопровождается риском развития эрозий. Так, при самом популярном методе апикальной фиксации -сакрокольпопексии риск формирования экструзии сетчатого эндопротеза составляет 0-10 % [28]. В описанном нами способе унилатеральной сакроспинальной фиксации была значительно снижена материалоемкость имплантата (применяли ленту размером 1,5 × 20 см).…”
