“…At the end of the 20th century, a number of food scandals and various animal diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), avian flu, swine fever, paratuberculosis caused by ruminants, etc opened up a broad public discussion about meat consumption [156] and modern pandemics [157,158]. On the other hand, the hypothesis that the consumption of meat and milk induces chronic inflammation in humans and indirectly increases the risk of colorectal and breast cancer because of Bovine Meat and Milk Factors (BMMF) found predominantly in Eurasian cattle [159][160][161] is less well known. Circular molecules of viral origin, whose genetic material is extrachromosomal present in animals, activate the DNA after the consumption of meat and milk and the transfer into human cells, and are therefore believed to be triggers for the types of cancer mentioned.…”

“…PAdVs have been associated to gastrointestinal disease, diarrhea, and multifactorial respiratory disease in swine (Kumthip et al, 2019). BoPyV was characterized as BoPyV-1, closely related to BoPyV detected in cattle beef muscle and ground beef samples from Germany and USA (Gräfe et al, 2017;Peretti et al, 2015). The areas where BoPyV was detected are involved with educational purposes and dairy productions in a university campus.…”

“…A study from New Zealand found that infection is more common in bovine fetuses and calves than in adult cattle when batches of bovine serum products are analyzed [14]. Studies based on molecular detection in bovine serum, beef muscle, or ground beef in the USA, Mexico, Germany, and New Zealand found DNA of BoPyV-1, -2, and/or -3 in 2–70% of the tested samples [14,15,19,33,34]. Molecular detection of BoPyV-1 and/or -2 has also been documented in cattle in Spain [35], Belgium [26], and Switzerland [20].…”
