Real-time image-content-based beamline control for smart 4D X-ray imaging

Abstract: Real-time processing of X-ray image data acquired at synchrotron radiation facilities allows for smart high-speed experiments. This includes workflows covering parameterized and image-based feedback-driven control up to the final storage of raw and processed data. Nevertheless, there is presently no system that supports an efficient construction of such experiment workflows in a scalable way. Thus, here an architecture based on a high-level control system that manages low-level data acquisition, data processin… Show more

“…To perform quantitative analysis and 3D visualisation, phase retrieval was applied to reduce the edge enhancement and convert it to areal contrast. The UFO image processing framework (Vogelgesang et al ., 2016), an open‐source package (http://www.github.com/ufo-kit), was used to perform Paganin/TIE phase‐retrieval (Paganin et al ., 2002) on the projections and was followed by image reconstruction. For phase retrieval, the delta/beta ratio was fine‐tuned to the value of 500 to convert the edge enhancement.…”

“…The series of radiographs is then used to reconstruct 3D volumes via filtered-back projection [49]. A GPU-accelerated implementation of this algorithm [50] has been utilized herein. The reconstructed volume size is 1600 × 1600 × 1600 voxels (each voxel has a physical length of 1.1 µm).…”

“…Unfortunately, such criteria exclude a lot of the most recently published candidates from use (Daurer et al, 2016;Prescher & Prakapenka, 2015;Vogelgesang et al, 2016;Liu et al, 2012). ISSN 1600-5775 One of the more likely recent candidates for such a tool is MMX-I (Bergamaschi et al, 2016).…”
