“…In line with previous reports, our findings indicate nearly comparable frequency of transformation to MF and AL . Among secondary malignancies, a higher frequency of skin cancer was reported in European countries, but our results identified skin cancer only in 2 patients and a higher incidence of gastrointestinal cancers, possibly reflecting ethnic and/or regional differences. Further observation of the frequency of secondary malignancies based on differences in cytoreductive therapy, such as hydroxycarbamide and anagrelide, is required.…”

“…We consider that JAK2 gene mutation is an important risk factor and speculate that there is a fraction of patients who require therapeutic intervention among the group In line with previous reports, our findings indicate nearly comparable frequency of transformation to MF and AL. 21,22 Among secondary malignancies, a higher frequency of skin cancer was reported in European countries, 23…”

“…A higher incidence of second malignancies has been seen in a small cohort of patients treated with HC compared to interferon (IFN) alone (Hansen et al , ), particularly non‐melanoma skin cancers, and this has been seen in population‐based studies with increased risk of non‐melanotic skin cancer in patients treated with HC, especially in older patients of male sex (Gómez et al , ). Another study looked at treatment characteristics of a large number of patients with ET, diagnosed and followed during a 30‐year period.…”

“…Az interferonokat régóta alkalmazzuk PV-betegek kezelésére, de igazán nagyszámú betegen végzett randomizált tanulmány helyett inkább csak obszervációs tanulmányok eredményei alapján [31][32][33][34][35][36]. A konvencionális IFN-formák mellett gyakori influenzaszerű mellékhatá-sok, depresszió és autoimmun jelenségek miatt sok beteg hagyja abba a kezelést.…”
