KOTMIN13, a Korean herbal medicine alleviates allergic inflammation in vivo and in vitro

Abstract: BackgroundThe ethanol extract of KOTMIN13, composed of Inula japonica Flowers, Trichosanthes kirilowii Semen, Peucedanum praeruptorum Radix, and Allium macrostemon Bulbs, was investigated for its anti-asthmatic and anti-allergic activities.MethodsThe anti-asthmatic effects of KOTMIN13 were evaluated on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced murine asthma model. Anti-allergic properties of KOTMIN13 in bone-marrow derived mast cells (BMMC) and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) in vivo were also examined.ResultsIn asthma mode… Show more

“…Yoo et al demonstrated that aged black garlic extract inhibited the release of β-hexosaminidase on HumRBL-2H3 cells [52]. Moreover, Lee et al showed that the Korean herbal medicine KOTMIN13 inhibited the degranulation of bone marrow mast cells derived [53]. Our results demonstrated that methanolic LE inhibits the degranulation of both HumRBL-2H3 and LAD2 cells in response to immunological and non-immunological stimuli, respectively.…”

“…(Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus). A. macrostemon , a major constituent of JHGT, has been reported to have a therapeutic effect on acute myocardial ischemia via reducing inflammatory responses [ 37 ]. Furthermore, A. macrostemon and T. kirilowii are among the top 10 natural products for the treatment of coronary artery diseases [ 38 ].…”

“…These findings were supported by the observed amelioration of various indicators of inflammation in the OVA-induced asthma model mice, which included the weights of immune organs, the number of leukocytes released into the BALF, serum IgE concentration, thickness of the respiratory epithelium, mucus score, and Th2 cytokine and COX-2 expression. These indicators of lung inflammation have been applied in previous studies to investigate the therapeutic effects of various herbal medicines, including Phillinus linteus extract ( 38 ), Korean ginseng ( 39 ) and KOTMIN13 ( 40 ), in OVA-induced asthma models.…”
