Integrative taxonomy ofMetrichiaRoss (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae: Ochrotrichiinae) microcaddisflies from Brazil: descriptions of twenty new species

Abstract: Metrichia is assigned to the Ochrotrichiinae, a group of almost exclusively Neotropical microcaddisflies. Metrichia comprises over 100 described species and, despite its diversity, only one species has been described from Brazil so far. In this paper, we provide descriptions for 20 new species from 8 Brazilian states: M. acuminata sp. nov., M. azul sp. nov., M. bonita sp. nov., M. bracui sp. nov., M. caraca sp. nov., M. circuliforme sp. nov., M. curta sp. nov., M. farofa sp. nov., M. forceps sp. nov., M. formo… Show more

“…According to the research in Croatia until now two taxa from the complex Potamophylax cingulatus-latipennis were recorded -Potamophylax cingulatus alpestris in the northern part of Croatia (Ćukušić 2019) and Potamophylax depilis from the area of Gacka River (Oláh et al 2018). The exact (taxonomic) status of this species will be clarified by further research into integrative taxonomy which includes morphological and molecular analyses (Kučinić et al 2013;Previšić et al 2014;Santos et al 2016).…”

“…The DNA barcoding method has proved to be indispensable in a modern approach to faunistic and taxonomic research (e.g. Kučinić et al 2020b;Ruiter et al 2013;Santos et al 2016;Valladolid et al 2020).…”

“…Besides the high number of taxa recorded for the first time from Ceará and Piauí, effectively increasing the knowledge of aquatic insect diversity for these states, several undescribed species were detected. Twenty-six and 20 undescribed species from PNU and PNSC, respectively, were detected based on the material collected during this project, of those 12 from PNU ( Câmara et al 2015 , Henriques-Oliveira and Santos 2014 , Souza et al 2014a , Souza et al 2014b , Santos et al 2016a ) and four from PNSC ( Cordeiro et al 2014 , Souza et al 2014b , Souza et al 2016a , Souza et al 2016b ) have already been described.…”
