and earned a doctorate degree in 1988 on the subject of 'chromogranin A in the endocrine pancreas of cattle: cellular and subcellular distribution, characterization and quantification.' During the course of her studies, she also became acquainted with her future husband, Professor Stefan R. Bornstein.
