Histological and immunohistochemical study of estrogen and progesterone receptors in normal human breast tissue in adult age groups vulnerable to malignancy

Abstract: Analysis of receptor status has become standard procedure for assessing breast cancer patients. Estrogen causes epithelial proliferation in breast tissue via the estrogen receptor (ER). The progesterone receptor (PR) is also regulated by the estrogen gene. Analyzing ER and PR together gives information regarding the likely response of carcinoma patients to hormonal therapy. The aim of the present study was to record the expression patterns of ER and PR in normal mammary tissue in different age groups to provid… Show more

“…In addition, progesterone plays a key role in the regulation of important reproductive functions and can exert its effects through both nuclear PRs and membrane PRs [36]. As an ER-regulated gene, PR expression is closely regulated by ERs [37,38]. As a member of the erbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases, HER-2 is a target for antibody-based therapy in the treatment of breast cancer [39,40].…”

“…We measured the area fraction in a standard measuring frame per 5 photomicrographs in each group using a magnification ×400 by light microscope conveyed to the monitored screen. Areas containing positively immunostained tissues were used for estimation regardless the intensity of staining (Goyal et al, 2016 , Yue-Chun et al, 2016 ) .…”
