QTL Location and Epistatic Effect Analysis of 100-Seed Weight Using Wild Soybean (Glycine soja Sieb. & Zucc.) Chromosome Segment Substitution Lines

Abstract: Increasing the yield of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) is a main aim of soybean breeding. The 100-seed weight is a critical factor for soybean yield. To facilitate genetic analysis of quantitative traits and to improve the accuracy of marker-assisted breeding in soybean, a valuable mapping population consisting of 194 chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) was developed. In these lines, different chromosomal segments of the Chinese cultivar Suinong 14 were substituted into the genetic background of wi… Show more

“…Moreover, the importance of the epistatic effects of SW QTL has been verified in recent studies (Han, Yi et al., ), and even in the early SW developmental stages (Han, Xie et al., ; Teng et al., ). The results of some previous studies indicate that epistatic interactions significantly affected the accumulation of SW from the R3 to R8 developmental stages (Jiang et al., ) and could account for nearly 5% of the total variance (Xin et al., ). It was similar to the findings of the present study (ranged from 2.09 to 3.97%).…”

“…A comparison of the positions of six consensus QTL intervals revealed two of them were present in the same region in the CSSL genetic map (Xin et al., ), while the other four were not detected the same region. The consensus QTLs associated with NThSP, NPPP and NSPP on GM02 (42.89–46.46 Mbp) had a corresponding region in the substituted wild soybean chromosomal segment in CSSLs‐210 (Sat_069) (Xin et al., ). The 3‐year mean phenotypic data for the NThSP, NPPP and NSPP of CSSLs‐210, 34.86, 63.57 and 170.00 were significantly higher than the corresponding data for SN14 (recurrent parent), 18.31, 35.52 and 93.56, respectively (Figure ).…”

“…These results suggested the substituted wild soybean chromosomal segment represents an important region for these traits, which was consistent with the fact the additive effects of the consensus QTLs were in the same direction. Another consensus QTL associated with NPPP and SNPP on GM13 (33.44–39.42 Mbp) had a corresponding physical region on the substituted wild soybean chromosomal segment in CSSLs‐157 (Satt554) (Xin et al., ). The mean phenotypic data for the NPPP of CSSLs‐157, 119.50 were significantly higher than the SN14, 30.50, while the mean phenotypic data for the SNPP, 2.18 were significantly lower than the SN14 data, 2.66 (Figure ).…”

“…Five chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) were selected from a population of 194 CSSLs generating by crossing ‘Suinong 14’ (Chinese variety) and ZYD00006 (wild soybean) (Xin et al., ). Five CSSLs were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replicates in Harbin, China (45.75°N, 126.53°E) in 2017.…”
