Solitary fibrous tumor of the salivary gland: A case report

Abstract: Abstract. Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare soft-tissue tumors of mesenchymal origin. Occasionally, these lesions have been indicated to associate with the salivary glands. Through the analysis of magnetic resonance imaging sequences, the present study reports a case of a solitary salivary gland lesion, demonstrating a well-circumscribed, soft-tissue tumor with marked signal changes and homogenous enhancement. SFT should be considered as a differential diagnosis when a solid mass exhibiting hypointensity… Show more

“…In recent years this tumor has been documented in almost every anatomic location. In the head and neck region, SFT may be found in the orbit, nose and paranasal sinuses, major salivary glands, larynx, thyroid, and the deep soft tissues of the neck, among other places [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. Oral SFT is a rare entity—only 150 cases were reported until May 2019, and most were case reports with only a few case series.…”

“…Giant refractory thoracic tumors of various pathological types invade the surrounding tissues and organs with serious consequences. Moreover, completely removing tumors using conventional thoracic surgery is difficult, resulting in poor patient prognosis 1–4 . The surgical strategy for complete tumor resection is also extremely high‐risk, but the adoption of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can ensure the stability of intraoperative respiratory circulation and create favorable conditions for complete tumor resection 5 .…”
