Acid blue 29 decolorization and mineralization by anodic oxidation with a cold gas spray synthesized Sn–Cu–Sb alloy anode

Abstract: The elevated cost of anodic materials used in the anodic oxidation for water treatment of effluents undermines the real application of these technologies. The study of novel alternative materials more affordable is required. In this work, we report the application of Sn-Cu-Sb alloys as cheap anodic material to decolorize azo dye Acid Blue 29 solutions. These anodes have been synthesized by cold gas spray technologies. Almost complete decolorization and COD abatement were attained after 300 and 600 min of elect… Show more

“…Currently, many electrode materials have been prepared and used for degrading organic pollutants in water, such as carbon materials [13,15], noble metals [16,17], alloys [18], modified clay [19], metallic nanoparticles [17,20] and mainly metal oxides [12,14,21], with low overpotential for both oxygen and hydrogen evolution.…”

“…To date, only a very few studies have paid attention to Sn-Sb-Cu-based Babbitt coatings deposited by means of LPCS and reported the microstructural properties. For instance, Vale-Júnior et al [14] investigated the feasibility of manufacturing an Sn-Sb-Cu-based anode material processed by LPCS and evaluated its potential application for electrochemical treatments. A patent by Lamberton et al [15] disclosed a cold spray coating process for depositing a powdered Babbitt material on the inner surfaces of a bearing assembly.…”
