Association of Interleukin 7 Receptor (rs1494555 and rs6897932) Gene Polymorphisms with Asthma in a North Indian Population

Abstract: Background:Interleukin 7R (IL-7R), a cytokine receptor gene, plays an important role in the development of innate and adaptive inflammatory response in asthma etiology.Objective:IL-7R is a heterodimeric protein composed of α chain and γ chain. The α chain of IL-7R has a range of single nucleotide polymorphisms, which give rise to nonsynonymous amino-acid substitutions that might result in an increased production of inflammatory cytokines and cause asthma. Methods:A case-control study was conducted with a total … Show more

“… 118 With regard to asthma, an association of the rs6897932 C allele and increased risk of disease was demonstrated in an Indian cohort. 114 Similarly, in a cohort with Type 1 Diabetes, Todd et al have observed an association between rs6897932 SNP and this autoimmune disorder. 65 Subsequently, Santiago and colleagues have confirmed this association.…”

“…Beyond its association with CNS autoimmunity, numerous studies have suggested that the rs6897932 SNP might be involved with other autoimmune disorders and immune-mediated conditions. These include asthma, 114 type 1 diabetes, 115 sarcoidosis, 116 rheumatoid arthritis, 117 and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). 118 …”

“…Although the association of rs6897932 polymorphism with MS has not been investigated, its association with other autoimmune disorders, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, 24 and asthma has been established. 25 It is believed that rs6897932 polymorphism regulates monocyte surface IL7R induction by lipopolysaccharides and tumor necrosis factor stimulation. 26…”

“…Genetic variation polymorphisms of IL-7R has been reported to affect the occurrence of many diseases. Sinha et al [24] found that polymorphisms of IL-7R (rs1494555 and rs6897932) were associated with asthma in the northern Indian population. IL-7R -rs6897932 (C/T) was related to the susceptibility of systemic lupus erythematosu [25].…”
