Abstract:This paper discusses guidelines from the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and other recommending bodies for screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm and cancers of the colon, cervix, lung, breast, and prostate.
“…However, guidelines are not without controversy. The validity of recently published practice guidelines related to changes in the timing of mammography, cervical cancer screening, and cardiology has all been challenged [6][7][8][9]. Areas that are of concern include the transparency of the guideline development process, reporting of potential conflicts of interest (COI), and the evidence used to grade the recommendations.…”
Majority of the BE guideline fail to meet the AGREE II domains, and most of the recommendations are level B or C quality evidence. Further interventions are necessary to improve the overall quality of the guidelines.
