Notolutesins A–J, Dolabrane-Type Diterpenoids from the Chinese LiverwortNotoscyphus lutescens

Abstract: Ten new dolabrane-type diterpenoids, notolutesins A–J (1–10), were isolated from the Chinese liverwort Notoscyphus lutescens, along with four known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic data, and that of 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined by comparing its experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. All of the isolates were evaluated for their cytotoxicity… Show more

“…Analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data revealed the structure of 4 closely related to notolutesin H [18], with the exception of a methylene of C-2 (δ C 25.8) in 4 to replace a hydroxymethine of the latter compound. The similar NOE interactions confirmed 4 to be a 2-dehydroxy analogue of notolutesin H.…”

“…Apart from the mangrove plants of genus Ceriops which contain diverse dolabrane-based terpenoids including bisdolabranes, dolabrane-type analogues are also isolated from the genus unrelated plants Dichapetalum gelonioides [22] and Endospermum diadenum [21,23], in addition to a liverwort Notoscyphus lutescens [18]. These findings revealed that dolabrane-type diterpenes are distributed from lower plants to higher plants without the chemotaxonomic relevance.…”

“…In recent years, a number of novel components have been isolated and purified from plants and have a variety of biological activities [15,16], many of which can be used as lead compounds for drug development [17,18]. Sesquiterpene is a kind of the most abundant substance existing in the plant essential oils which often have a strong odor and may protect themselves from animals, insects and parasites [19,20].…”
