Characterization and molecular mapping of stripe rust resistance gene Yr61 in winter wheat cultivar Pindong 34

Abstract: We report a new stripe rust resistance gene on chromosome 7AS in wheat and molecular markers useful for transferring it to other wheat genotypes. Several new races of the stripe rust pathogen have established throughout the wheat growing regions of China in recent years. These new races are virulent to most of the designated seedling resistance genes limiting the resistance sources. It is necessary to identify new genes for diversification and for pyramiding different resistance genes in order to achieve more … Show more

“…The identity or similarity of the genomic region tagged by IWA7306 and IWA1845 with previously mapped QTL needs to be further investigated. Although Yr61 [69] and Yrxy1 [70] have already been mapped on the short arm of chromosome 7A, both IWA7306 and IWA1845 were mapped far from Yr61 and Yrxy1 , and likely represent different resistance loci.…”

“…To date, about 67 stripe rust resistance genes (Yr1-Yr67) plus 42 temporarily designated genes have been catalogued in cultivated wheat and its wild relatives (McIntosh et al 2013;Macceferri et al 2015;Cheng et al 2014;Zhou et al 2014). “…is reported as an all stage resistant gene (Zhou et al, 2014) and the presence of both seedling and adult plant resistance QTL in the genomic region reveals that the identified QTL in this study are related to Yr61.…”
