Density, structure, and strength of the distal radius in patients with psoriatic arthritis: the role of inflammation and cardiovascular risk factors

Abstract: There is an intertwined relationship between chronic inflammation, cardiovascular risk factors, and bone loss in PsA. PsA patients seem to have unique bone microstructural deficits which are associated with a propensity to bone fragility.

“…The association between sST2 with compromised bone quality in terms of low cortical vBMD and TMD and was attenuated by adjusting for traditional osteoporotic risk factors, suggesting that the latter might partially mediate the effect of inflammation on osteoporosis. More importantly, compromised cortical bone quality was also the featured pattern of bone microstructural deficits in our PsA patients compared with controls15.…”

“…The vBMD and microstructure of 53 out of the 80 patients comparing with age and gender matched controls had been published before15. Exclusion criteria were history of a disorder or using a drug that could affect bone metabolism; and pregnant or breastfeeding15. Treatment with glucocorticoids, calcium, and/or vitamin supplement was allowed.…”

“…Zhu и со-авт. [24] значимых различий в значениях МПК, получен-ных с помощью DXA, у пациентов с ПсА и контрольной группы не было выявлено. Однако пККТ продемонстри-ровала, что показатели, связанные с качеством корти-кальной кости, ее микроархитектурой, у пациентов с ПсА в значительной мере хуже, чем в группе контроля.…”
