ObjectivesTo investigate the current and intended future use of dental dams (DDs) and attitudes regarding DD use among final-year dental students at two levels (undergraduate and college) in dental schools in Chongqing, China.DesignA cross-sectional study based on a questionnaire was conducted from June to July 2021.SettingChongqing Medical University (CQMU, undergraduate level) and Chongqing Three Gorges Medical College (CQTGMC, junior college level).ParticipantsA total of 245 final-year dental students.Main outcome measuresAn anonymous online questionnaire was distributed to dental students less than 1 month before graduation. Students were asked about the DD training they had received, their attitudes towards some aspects of DDs, their current DD use and their intended future DD use in adult or child patients and in various dental procedures.ResultsA total of 238 valid questionnaires were returned (response rate=97.1%, CQMU=96.2%, n=76; CQTGMC=97.6%, n=162). A total of 47.5% of respondents used DDs on real patients during their internships (CQMU=59.2%, CQTGMC=42.0%, p<0.05). Whether in restorative procedures or endodontic treatment, the most common reason for not using DDs was a ‘lack of knowledge and experience’, followed by ‘DDs could not be provided by internship institutions’. Although the advantages of DDs were recognised by most students from the two schools, 52.9% thought DDs were difficult to apply (CQMU=42.1%, CQTGMC=58.0%, p<0.05). A total of 92.1% of CQMU respondents and 95.1% of CQTGMC respondents expressed their willingness to use DDs after independent practice in the future.ConclusionsAlthough final-year students have a clear awareness of the advantages of DDs and are very enthusiastic about future DD use, the current DD utilisation rate is low. Education about DDs should be continuously improved in many aspects, and the advantages of using DDs in clinical dentistry should be further emphasised at dental schools.

Một nghiên cứu được tiến hành ở Ấn Độ vào năm 2014 đã chỉ ra tỷ lệ sử dụng đê cao su vẫn còn thấp và chỉ 23% đối tượng tham gia nghiên cứu sử dụng đê cao su cho tất cả các ca điều trị tủy của họ, nhưng 94% BS đã biết cách sử dụng đê cao su và 68% được học về đê trong chương trình giáo dục đại học 4 -Tiến hành khảo sát thử trên 5 bác sĩ được chọn ngẫu nhiên và không biết gì về nội dung nghiên cứu để kiểm tra tính dễ hiểu, tính hợp lệ và độ tin cậy của bộ câu hỏi, sau đó điều chỉnh bộ câu hỏi sao cho phù hợp.…”

Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang thực hiện trực tuyến nhằm mô tả thực trạng sử dụng đê cao su trong thực hành lâm sàng của các bác sĩ Răng Hàm Mặt tốt nghiệp từ năm 2017 đến năm 2020 của trường Đại học Y Hà Nội và giải thích các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến tần suất sử dụng đê cao su. Đồng thời nhận xét mối tương quan giữa năm tốt nghiệp - sự đổi mới chương trình giáo dục và kiến thức, thái độ, hành vi đối với đê cao su của các bác sĩ. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy: 75.7% bác sĩ đã từng sử dụng đê cao su, nhưng chỉ có 13% các bác sĩ luôn luôn sử dụng trong điều trị. Tỷ lệ sử dụng đê tăng theo năm tốt nghiệp, cao nhất là năm 2020 với 79.5%. Đa số người được hỏi (89,9%) xác nhận rằng nguồn thông tin về đê cao su là từ chương trình giảng dạy đại học, tỷ lệ này tăng theo năm tốt nghiệp (p <0,05). Tuy nhiên chỉ có 39,9% các bác sĩ cảm thấy hài lòng với những gì được dạy.

One of the prerequisite for the numerous endodontic and operative procedures is use of rubber dam which is an absolute necessity. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and attitude of dental practitioners about the rubber dam use during endodontic treatment of anterior and posterior teeth. Materials and Method: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out in the urban area of Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. 90 clinics which were having conservative and endodontics speciality were selected for the study. A prevalidated close ended questionnaire was used. Details about the basic sociodemographic characteristics, information with regard to rubber dam use during procedures, attitude of dentists towards its use and the reasons for whether non use of rubber dam was recorded. Results: A total of 90 questionnaires were mailed to dental practitioners in the urban locality. With respect to response to the use of rubber dam during endodontic procedures 13.72% of males and 12.82% of females responded that they were always using the rubber dam,5.88% of males and 5.19% of females used rubber dam very oftenly.17.64% and 2.56% of male and female participants used it occasionally. With regard to rubber dam use for the endodontic treatment procedures of the root canal of posterior teeth 15.68% of males and 12.82% of females responded that they were always using the rubber dam,5.88% of males and 5.19% of females used rubber dam very oftenly.17.64% and 2.56% of male and female participants used it occasionally. Conclusion: Hence it can be stated that for creating awareness among dental practitioners about the importance of rubber dam in endodontic procedure by continuing dental educations is the need of the hour to improve the quality of dental care.
